Lush- "Missing the mark"

Lush has a lot of factors working in their favor. Their products, most recognizable being the Lush "bath bombs," are colorful, vibrant, and totally "snap- worthy." Their other products, which include shampoo bars, facial cleansers, lip balm, and even deodorant- are all made with the environment and sustainability in mind.

You can also turn in five of their plastic containers from face masks, to receive a totally free one in return! As stated on their website, they then chip the recycled containers down and reuse them.

Their instagram is filled with original content and vibrant photos. The best part of their social media platforms however, is that they feature real people, doing real things. As you scroll through, you may see two men sharing a romantic bath, or a fresh faced college student washing her face. There is no photoshop, and tricky angles trying to hide who people really are.

Besides just the fact that they have great products, mindful social media, and meaningful messages, they use their website to touch on political and social issues that need to be brought into light.

All of this being said, there is one thing Lush obviously did not catch the memo on. And that is, how to catch peoples attention and correctly market to them! In this video, showing their new "naked" shampoo bar, I can't help but wonder what they were thinking they would accomplish from this? The video does not actually show what this product is, or even how it truly works! It lacks creativity and innovation, which is interesting because they truly innovated a whole new kind of shampoo....
Anyways, if Lush were to ask me for some advice (which I won't be holding my breath for) I would tell them to take their unique products, and unique business practices on build on that! Feature real people, using your awesome products, and show other real people that they are for them to!
